The measure has received bipartisan support and sailed through its hearing yesterday, reported favorably with no opposition. Jennifer Marusak of the Louisiana Medical Association testified with Rep. Moreno and expressed the support of the medical community for the bill. Sen. Claitor asked several questions clarifying that the reduction in the allowable amount of pills would not “cause people to suffer” more, adding that it is important to recognize that “pain is real” as Louisiana attempts to rein in its opioid crisis.
