The National Employment Law Project released a new report about uber and other service companies that classify their workers as independent contractors. The report, titled, Rights at Risk: Gig Companies’ Campaign to Upend Employment as We Know It, claims that “powerful corporations and far-right players have come together to push policies that carve out” or exempt workers from basic employee protections. Proponents of Uber-esque independent contractor policies include the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), Amazon, Marriott, Hilton, and political consulting firm Tusk Strategies.
