OSHA issued $117,000 in fines to a garden center in Houston for 13 serious violations, two repeat violations and one other-than-serious violation. The facility, doing business as Houston Garden Center, was inspected after the employer failed to report an in-patient hospitalization of an employee within 24 hours. The employee had fallen from a container hoisted aloft by a forklift. The serious violations that OSHA discovered were mostly fall hazards that likely caused that accident, including a lack of appropriate protection for scaffolding and a failure to train employees on the use of industrial trucks.
