The federal government’s final count of fatal occupational injuries in 2014 shows an increase from 2013 – the first one since 2010. The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries says the overall fatal work injury rate in 2014 was 3.4 per 100,000 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers, up from 3.3 in 2013. The final count of fatal work injuries in 2014 was 4,821. The total number of worker deaths had been below 4,700 every year since 2009. These numbers are an update from preliminary ones released last fall.
