Lieutenant Colonel Lionel Anthony Boudreaux, (USAF, ret.), a native of Houma, LA, and a resident of Marrero, LA, died Friday, November 7, 2014, at the age of 72. He was the owner of Boudreaux & Associates Insurance Agency Inc.
Gabrielle Boudreaux said of her father’s passing, “I was honored to have him as a father and hope to continue his legacy. Boudreaux & Associates Insurance Agency, Inc. will still be operating like normal. He had been training me for the last ten years on the operations.”
In addition to his successful insurance agency, which was founded in 1986, Lionel Boudreaux also had an illustrious career in the U.S. Air Force until 1985. After flying 285 combat missions in Vietnam, Lt. Col. Boudreaux was awarded the Louisiana Honor Medal for Veterans. He was also a Distinguished Graduate of LSU and earned his Master’s Degree in Logistics from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
Frank Bowman, Marketing Director at LCI Workers’ Comp, recalled Boudreaux’s passion for the Air Force, as well as his orchard of fruit trees. In the end though, Bowman believes that Boudreaux’s greatest asset in business was his direct manner. “There was absolutely no pretense about him,” Bowman said. “He was just extremely forthright.”
Boudreaux’s Marrero community will also mourn his loss, as he was an active member of a variety of organizations including the Knights of Columbus, Immaculata Council 4222 and Rev. T.J. Larkin 4th Degree Assembly 322. He served as Past Grand Knight, Past District Deputy, and K of C Louisiana State Representative. According to his obituary in the New Orleans Advocate, Boudreaux was instrumental in leading the council to becoming first in the state. Further, Boudreaux was a member of the Lions Club of Marrero and was granted the Melvin Jones Award for his service.
With respect to Lionel Boudreaux’s dedicated community involvement throughout his life, Gabrielle Boudreaux explained, “He was a great asset to our community and will be greatly missed by all family and friends whose lives he touched. His motto was: ‘God is my co-pilot.’”
Lionel Boudreaux was the beloved husband of Veronica Roberts Boudreaux for 52 years and father to three children: Lionel A. Boudreaux, III (Renee), Nicole B. Hymel (Carrel) and Gabrielle Boudreaux. Boudreaux was also grandfather to Captain Aftan B. Anson, USAF (Capt. Josh Anson, USAF), Kayla B. Falgoust (Ryan), C.J. Hymel , IV, Carra Hymel, Nicholas Hymel and Brody Wehmeyer; and great-grandfather to Knox A. Falgoust and one expected great-grandchild, Nash M. Falgoust. His siblings are Randy Boudreaux and the late Sandra Boudreaux and he was the son of the late Lionel J. Boudreaux and Alice Aucoin Boudreaux.
Relatives and friends of the family, also members of the above named organizations are invited to attend the Visitation at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA, on Friday, November 14, 2014, from 10 AM until 1:30 PM. The funeral service will follow. Interment at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA.
