Aubrey T. Temple, Jr. passed away at the age of 68 on October 18, 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana surrounded by family and close friends.
He was a native of Leesville, born August 21st, 1946, and the beloved husband of Linda Hernandez Temple, father to Tim Temple (Amy), Candace Adams (Boots) and Ryan Temple (Ashley). He is survived by 2 grandsons, Bryce Adams and Jackson Temple; and 5 granddaughters, Baylee Adams, Isabella Temple, Aubrey Marie Temple, Sophia Temple and Taylor Temple. He is also survived by a brother Dewey Temple and a sister Merlene Thompson.
Temple served as the founding Chairman of the Board of LWCC, a position he held for twenty years. He was named Chairman Emeritus in 2012 and continued his board service until the time of his death.
His obituary in The Advocate notes the extensive list of boards and organizations with which Temple served including: The Business First Bank, Beauregard Federal Savings and Loan, Louisiana Superdome Commission, Coastal Restoration Finance Authority, Sabine River Authority, Louisiana Insurance Guaranty Association, Office of State Group Benefits, DeRidder Chamber of Commerce and the DeRidder Lions Club.
In a statement via LWCC, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Aubrey Temple, Jr. after his passing. We are forever indebted to him for his service to our state, and he will be remembered as a great leader and public servant. His work on coastal issues, workforce and business development, and other areas throughout state government will improve Louisiana for many years to come. He will be missed, and his memory will never be forgotten.”
Temple graduated from Northwestern State University in 1969 and began his career in the insurance industry in 1975. Prior to serving as Chairman of the Board for LWCC, Temple was a founding partner of Morris, Temple and Company, which grew into American Interstate Insurance Company/Amerisafe Insurance Company. He was also the CEO of the Temple Group which later became the ICT Group (now part of Regions Insurance Group).
