Comp in Focus is a bimonthly luncheon speaker series presented by Louisiana Comp Blog. The series addresses emergent issues in the workers’ compensation industry, with speakers from both employer/insurer and claimant/labor sides of the arena.
More than a lecture, Comp in Focus seeks to create a dialogue in the comp community on the “big picture” issues and how they affect us on a local level.
The speaker for Tuesday, May 10th at Ralph’s on the Park in New Orleans is Dr. Douglas Lurie, board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with Orthopaedic Associates of New Orleans. Given the ongoing debate about opioids and Louisiana’s “outlier” status, plus HB 725 pending in the Legislature which would create a mandatory ODG formulary, Dr. Lurie will address an essential question:
What is the “evidence” in evidence-based medicine?
Is this method as full-proof as it seems? How does it affect opioids for palliative care? Is alternative medicine adequately addressed?
Join us in the debate!
As usual, networking, wine and hors d’oeuvres start at 11 AM, followed by lunch and discussion. The event ends at 1 PM.
