Comp in Focus is a bimonthly luncheon speaker series presented by Louisiana Comp Blog. The series addresses emergent issues in the workers’ compensation industry, with speakers from both employer/insurer and claimant/labor sides of the arena.
More than a lecture, Comp in Focus seeks to create a dialogue in the comp community on the “big picture” issues and how they affect us on a local level.
The speaker for Tuesday, March 15th, 2016, at Ralph’s on the Park in New Orleans is Clark Cossé, experienced workers’ comp and business lobbyist and one of the major contributors to the workers’ comp reforms of the last several decades. Mr. Cossé will discuss the move from the assigned risk pool to the formation of the Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Corporation (LWCC) in context of today’s market. Inherent in this discussion are several important questions for the future of workers’ comp in Louisiana:
Has LWCC fulfilled its mission? Where does it fit in the overall market and should its purpose shift?
How do the interests of LWCC (which holds the largest market share in the state) play into calls for workers’ comp reform? Do we see any echoes of this from previous reform efforts?
How does LWCC’s role differ from our neighboring state’s solutions in this regard (i.e. Texas Mutual)?
Join us in the debate!
As usual, networking, wine and hors d’oeuvres start at 11 AM, followed by lunch and discussion. The event ends at 1 PM. Registration here.
