A new feature from Bloomberg looks at safety issues associated with the drop in oil prices. Even as production downshifts, worker deaths in the oil and gas industry have increased 31 percent since 2003 to a total of 112 in 2013 (the latest statistics available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.) The article comes as news of another explosion in a Texas oil field broke last week. The accident killed three workers and occurred at a well owned by Parsley Energy Inc. in Upton County on March 10th. The workers were employed by Mason Well Service Ltd. of Odessa, Texas. The names of the workers have not been released and an investigation in ongoing.
