The controversy surrounding Texas Mutual’s relationship with the Travis County DA’s office in Austin to prosecute workers’ comp fraud cases has gathered more scrutiny. Texas State Representative John Frullo, Chairman of the Insurance Committee, went on a local radio station KFYO to address the investigative report from the Texas Tribune and Austin American-Statesman and explain what the Legislature will be reviewing with respect to the years-long contract arrangement. Texas Mutual (a private entity, but still the insurer of last resort in the state) is accused of participating in a conflict of interest by directly paying the salaries and expenses of the several assistant DA’s and support staff in exchange for the group’s activities to fight fraud and other criminal activity against Texas Mutual.
