The Dallas Morning News published an editorial criticizing the relationship between the Travis County District Attorney’s office and Texas Mutual. The public-private partnership has been the subject of scrutiny since a joint Texas Tribune/Austin American-Statesman investigation discovered contracts that appear to reveal a long-standing payment arrangement in which Texas Mutual funds a special unit in the DA’s office to prosecute the company’s workers’ comp fraud cases. The Dallas Morning News editorial takes aim at the state Legislature in particular, saying that responsibility lies with Texas legislators to correct the statutes that have made the cozy pairing legal.
