The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation has no plans to draft its own legislative fix for rising workers’ compensation rates, but that doesn’t mean regulators are ignoring the problem, according to Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier. As Saint Peters Blog reports, Altmaier expects his office “to be actively involved in that conversation” moving forward. Workers’ comp rates suddenly became a political priority in the state after NCCI hiked rates drastically following two Florida Supreme Court cases. The eventual approved increase sits at 14.5 percent after regulators rejected NCCI’s original 19.6 percent proposal.
