The “must-pass” workers’ compensation legislation in Florida may be in jeopardy as lawmakers in that state barrel toward adjournment of the Session tomorrow. As Florida Politics reports, there is an assignment of benefits workers’ comp bill on the Senate calendar, but it differs in significant respects from the version the House adopted. It is unclear whether those differences can be reconciled in the day that remains. Meanwhile, the House has adopted assignment of benefits reforms but the Senate version sits inactive in the Rules Committee. The Florida Legislature may extend the Session to get the comp reforms through in some form. Insurance companies and businesses in Florida have supported various bills and versions of bills in both state chambers in an effort to control premium spikes and correct the issues that led to several successful system-wide Supreme Court challenges in Florida last year.
