Berkshire Hathaway is expanding to include more direct sales, specifically in the company’s workers’ compensation unit. The move follows the top A.M. Best rating (A++) won by the subsidiary that will sell the web-based product to mid-sized businesses nationwide – Berkshire Hathaway Direct Insurance Company. Berkshire already has experience selling policies directly to consumers. Its Geico unit was a pioneer in that business and is now the No. 2 auto insurer in the U.S.
