The number of people who experienced some unemployment during 2018 declined by 1.3 million to 13.2 million, according to new Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers. Their share of those who worked or looked for work during the year fell by 0.8 percentage point to 7.8 percent in 2018. That was the lowest rate in the history of the series.
