Production occupations had employment of 9 million in May 2017, according to new Bureau of Labor Statistics numbers covering May 2017. The largest production occupation was assemblers and fabricators, all other, including team assemblers, with employment of 1.3 million and median annual wages of $30,690. With median annual wages above $77,000, nuclear power reactor operators (which had employment of 6,010), power distributors and dispatchers (12,110), and power plant operators (34,170) were some of the highest paying production occupations. Healthcare and healthcare support occupations also had gains.
