The Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC) will hold a webinar on marijuana laws across the country and how they can affect the workplace. Entitled “Clearing the Haze: How State Marijuana Laws Impact Leave and Disability Administration,” speakers will address:
- Differences and requirements under the various state marijuana laws
- Considerations for disability plan and workplace policy language
- Workplace accommodation
- ADA and FMLA considerations
Certain caselaw in states like New Mexico has upheld reimbursement for medical marijuana under workers’ comp, and the national industry is still struggling to develop controls. Louisiana, which legalized marijuana back in the 1990s, finally developed a manufacturing and distribution system for the drug and expanded the list of covered conditions in the most recent two legislative sessions.
