A bill filed in the Texas Legislature stipulates that entities responsible for payment of workers’ comp benefits to Texas first responders must may double the value of the claim plus attorney’s fees if they are found to have delayed those benefits. The bill’s sponsor Texas Representative Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock) introduced the bill last week, bemoaning the “plague of delay and abuse” in first responder workers’ comp programs.
