David DePaolo, founder of WorkCompCentral, died on Sunday. He was 56 years old. According to an obituary published on WorkCompCentral yesterday, DePaolo was riding his motorcycle in the Santa Monica Mountains in California on Sunday afternoon when he hit a dirt embankment at about 4 PM. California Highway Patrol is still investigating the cause of the accident. DePaolo worked as a workers’ comp defense attorney in California prior to starting WorkCompCentral in 1999. He also wrote DePaolo’s Work Comp World, which contained his personal musings about the industry, and started the “Comp Laude” awards, which seek to recognize the good being done on all sides of the workers’ comp industry.
