Safety National awarded the annual Safety First Grant to three policyholders for their creative risk control solutions. The first-place $10,000 grant was awarded to Capital Region Educational Service District 113 Workers’ Compensation Trust for implementing an easy set school bus safety brake system to alleviate the risk of soft-tissue injuries related to repetitive parking brake application. The second-place $5,000 grant was awarded to Smithfield Foods for implementing an interlocking handrail system to eliminate injuries due to falls off the back of delivery trucks. The third-place $2,500 grant was awarded to South Carolina Municipal Insurance Trust for reducing law enforcement use-of-force claims by adding an interactive simulator to their training regimen.
