J&M Industries announced last Friday plans to expand its Ponchatoula manufacturing plant, valued at $4.5 million. Construction crews will expand the company’s tarp manufacturing facility at the Ponchatoula Industrial Park on U.S. Highway 51 South, and in addition, add a 120,000-square-foot building to the site. According to a NOLA.com report, company officials say J&M expects to retain 107 existing employees and create 30 new direct jobs. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project to result in an additional 23 new indirect jobs, and the company estimates the expansion to create about 20 construction jobs. This expansion is the latest news in a series of moves contributing to booming industry in Louisiana which will go on to affect the local workers’ comp market in the coming years.
