An explosion yesterday at the Williams Partners’ subsidiary Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Company in Gibson (Terrebonne Parish) has left three dead and four injured. The accident occurred around 11 AM in the 4700 block of Bayou Black Drive. According to a WVUE report, four contractors who were performing scheduled facility maintenance are being treated for injuries. The company was apparently unable to confirm the severity of the injuries late yesterday. The facility was not operational at the time of the incident and gas was not flowing through the pipeline, so company officials’ initial assessment of the incident said it does not appear to be a natural gas pipeline rupture. The State Police are handling the investigation and have stated that the smoke around the accident site does not pose a risk to the public.
