The Noranda alumina plant in Gramercy issued an updated Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) on March 9th, which extended the timeframe for possible layoffs. Noranda originally issued a WARN on January 13th, 2016, to give notice of the possible temporary closure of the entire Gramercy plant beginning March 13th. While the previously mentioned adverse business conditions continue, the plant continues to operate. The updated WARN now anticipates a potential plant closure in May 2016, resulting in the termination of 113 employees.
