Senate Bill 44 by Senator Ryan Gatti was the final bill considered in the Senate Labor and Industrial Relations Committee meeting yesterday. “[This bill] deals with a situation that is rare in the law but it costs our employers a lot of money in workers’ comp premiums,” Senator Gatti explained. He proceeded to file an amendment that clarifies the situations in which an employer is allowed to take a premium reduction and the right of the insurer or group fund to the funds resulting from a subrogation claim, which was accepted by the Committee. Senator Gatti also responded upon inquiry from Senator Peacock that he is planning another set of amendments in response to issues raised by LABI and the Homebuilders SIF. He voluntarily deferred the bill until the next meeting while those changes are researched and written.
