In local news:

This morning, a new art installation honoring the eleven men who died in the Deepwater Horizon disaster will appear on Elysian Fields Ave. near Dauphine St. in New Orleans. According to a NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune report, the piece consists of eleven individual figures made out of doubloon-sized discs and was created by Laurel, Mississippi-based artist Jason Kimes. Kimes told NOLA.com that the impetus for the unique sculptures was the overshadowing of the lives lost by the subsequent oil spill, which stretched on for months after the rig exploded and clogged the Gulf with 5 million barrels of oil.
