A bill that would require the Louisiana Office of Workers’ Compensation Administration (OWCA) to create a closed pharmacy formulary has been pre-filed for the upcoming 2017 Regular Session. Representative Chris Broadwater (R-Hammond) is sponsoring the bill (HB529), which is similar to the formulary bill he pushed last session (HB725) with one major difference. This time around, the bill contains a list of criteria for any proposed formulary to meet, rather than dictating the adoption of the Work Loss Data Institute’s “Official Disability Guidelines” closed list of pre-approved “Y” and initially denied “N” drugs. The Regular Session begins on April 10th. The Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council (WCAC) will likely address and vote on whether or not to report favorably on the measure at their next meeting on April 27th.
