A Breaux Bridge man has been sentenced to six months in prison and six months at-home confinement for filing false documents in order to continue receiving LHWCA benefits. After suffering an injury on an offshore oil platform in 1994, Mervin J. Noel began receiving workers’ comp and Social Security benefits. As a supplement to his income, Noel started a lawn care business in 2007. All together, Noel submitted four falsified documents to LWCC indicating that he had no additional income beyond his benefits. In addition to the two terms of incarceration, U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote ordered Noel to pay $138,247 in restitution to LWCC and the federal government.
