NOLA.com | The Times Picayune published a piece about New Orleans police and their reduced pension pay. The officers are fighting to get their disability checks with the pay they had when they retired. The Municipal Police Employees Retirement System, which took over in 2016, says that it can no longer pay the full amount because those checks were distributed at that amount in error. To correct the error, MPERS sharply reduced their pensions to 40 percent of their final average monthly pay.
