A man accused of killing two people, one of whom had filed a workers’ comp suit against him, may not stand trial. He is accused of killing Curtis “Cochise” Smith, who was last seen alive on February 21st, 1991, in Plaquemine and whose body has never been found, and George Barrett, who was discovered dead in his Plaquemine home on March 2nd, 2002, with two bullet wounds in his head. Both victims previously worked for the accused. The 62-year-old Plaquemine man’s lawyer is arguing that his client’s Stage IV cancer diagnosis makes him unfit to stand trial.
