The Louisiana Workforce Commission released detailed information on Louisiana’s status as one of the lowest workplace incident states. The rate reported for Louisiana in 2017 remained steady at 1.9 incidents per 100 full-time equivalent (FTE) workers, equal to the rate reported in 2016. The national average was 2.8. Louisiana had the lowest incidence rate among 41 participating states, trailing only the District of Columbia for the rate of nonfatal work-related injuries and illnesses. Louisiana has continuously been below the national average since the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration revised its recordkeeping rules in 2002.
