In local news:

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon has another challenger to his fall re-election bid. Charlotte McDaniel McGehee, a Democrat and lawyer from Baton Rouge, announced her candidacy last week. In her statement she says she is running because, “the people of Louisiana spend 18.1 percent of their median annual earnings on insurance. No other state in the nation spends as much. It’s time Louisiana had someone standing up for consumers instead of for insurance companies.” Donelon has been insurance commissioner since 2006. There is a GOP opponent as well; Matt Parker, from West Monroe, owns a car repair business.

The election is October 24th.
