Optum published a whitepaper on naloxone use in workers’ comp. The paper explores the history of the opioid overdose-reversal drug, emerging state use in an effort to curb overdose deaths, and issues for workers’ comp payers. The pharmacy benefit manager explains: “We are seeing an increase in naloxone prescriptions across our book of business, with a notable increase this year. Anesthesiologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and pain management specialists are writing the majority of naloxone prescriptions…”
