In national news:

The American Insurance Association (AIA) has announced its opposition to the expansion of workers’ comp opt-out legislation into Illinois after the Illinois Policy Institute suggested that opt-out could help employers in the state. In a statement, the AIA said that it was “disappointed by the Illinois Policy Institute’s report.” and further, that “opt-out represents the wrong approach to reforming the state’s workers’ compensation system.  It creates a separate and unequal system of work injury benefits, an un-level playing field among employers who will be incented to opt-out to minimize their work injury costs.” The AIA has voiced its opposition to the expansion of opt-out in various states where the reform has been opposed, including Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee.
