California is taking new provider-oriented steps in the fight against unnecessary opioids with a free online training program via the State Compensation Insurance Fund. The first class, scheduled for January 5th, will address proper use of opioids for acute pain management in work injuries. Members of the State Fund Provider Network are required to complete the classes. The response to opioid abuse in the state comes as the State Fund announced that 30% of its pharmaceutical payments are for opioids.
