The new Congress reconvenes this week in Washington D.C. and workers’ comp insurers are optimistic about a quick fix for TRIA renewal and limited long-term effects of the lapse. Executives told Insurance Journal that: “the failure of the previous Congress to renew TRIA was both surprising and disappointing, but that they fully expect the new Congress to restart the reinsurance program.” So far, the lack of TRIA has not created any major market disturbances. Analysts predict that the workers’ comp market will remain stable on a national level unless TRIA renewal drags on for many months.
