President Trump’s commission on the opioid crisis called yesterday for a nationwide system of drug courts and easier access to alternatives to opioids for pain. The commission, led by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, called for expanding drug courts as well as and prescriber training, in addition to 50+ more recommendations. Last week, President Trump declared opioid addiction a national public health emergency. This is not the same as a national emergency, which would open up several government revenue streams. It is unclear how any of the recommendations coming from the commission will be funded.
