Hotels are facing increased scrutiny over employee safety as the nation grapples with the prevalence and severity of sexual harassment and assault in the workplace. Most of the stories grabbing headlines since the beginning of the #MeToo movement with the Harvey Weinstein scandal have involved powerful men and women in professional jobs, but relatively low wage service workers (who face extremely high rates of harassment) have not received the same attention. As Bloomberg reports, “hotels’ liability can depend on whether they’re sufficiently aggressive in responding to allegations from employees and on the policies they have in place to prevent harassment in the first place.”
