Dr. Charles M. Yarborough III, President of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) recently issued public comments on behalf of ACOEM in response to the January 30th hearing held by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration called “Opioid Policy Steering Committee: Prescribing Intervention – Exploring a Strategy for Implementation.” Included in the comments is ACOEM’s request that the FDA “investigate the feasibility of requiring an element reflecting patient function be added to the electronic health record.” Yarborough says that some such element would help determine how to prescribe opioids in a chronic pain setting.
