NPR published a piece on how cancer presumption laws intended to ensure firefighters get workers’ comp often fall short. Although 42 states and Washington D.C. have cancer presumption laws, some states have narrowed the interpretation of the statutes. For example, in our neighboring Texas, the Houston Chronicle found that nine in ten Texas firefighters with cancer had their claims denied.
