According to initial Associated Press reports, ICE raided seven Mississippi chicken plants around Jackson yesterday, resulting in the detention of 680 suspected undocumented persons. The plants are operated by five companies. Those companies could face numerous charges related to the raid, including knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, wage and tax fraud, and potentially, penalties for skirting workers’ comp requirements. The workers were taken to a military hangar for processing. Their fate is unclear at this time.
