In national news:

An Uber driver who was stabbed last year by a passenger filed a class action lawsuit last month in the Superior Court of California in San Francisco, alleging that Uber intentionally misclassifies its drivers as independent contractors in order to avoid paying workers’ comp benefits. This suit is separate from another pending case in California Federal court, in which drivers of both Uber and Lyft are seeking to be classified as employees for reasons in conjunction with but not centered around workers’ comp. Uber’s lower-cost “UberX” service was just approved by the New Orleans City Council last month, with several provisions for insurance coverage and competition with traditional cabs.
