In national news:

The non-profit National Safety Council (NSC) is calling on employers to develop workplace policies around the use of opioid prescription painkillers, after reviewing research and court cases showing the negative impacts of narcotics on employee safety and worker’s compensation costs. The NSC’s findings, and a review of recent court cases in which employers and insurers were deemed responsible for death benefits after overdose plus detox programs and other payments for opioid-related complications, are detailed in the Council’s new report, Prescription Pain Medications: A Fatal Cure for Injured Workers. Calling the prevention of prescription opioid abuse a “moral and legal obligation,” the report also provides recommendations for employers to help in educating their employees.
