The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation has reported an increase in fatal injuries in the state for 2014, compared to the previous year. Preliminary data (derived from the Bureau of Labor Statistics) show that there was a 3 percent increase in fatal occupational injuries in the state, with 524 deaths. This figure compares to 508 deaths in 2013. Nationally, there were 4,679 fatal occupational injuries. Final fatality rates for 2014 at the state level will not be available until spring 2016, with the release of the final Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries results.
