The Texas Department of Insurance issued a notice yesterday that the Work Loss Data Institute’s “Official Disability Guidelines,” which the state uses to conduct its pharmacy formulary and treatment schedule, will no longer recognize Fentanyl Transdermal Patches, MS-Contin, Levorphanol (Levo-Dromoran) or Morphine ER/Naltrexone (Embeda) as “Y” drugs. The changes go into effect on February 1st, 2016 and prescriptions for those medications will require preauthorization. According to the notice, the state Division of Workers’ Compensation is performing outreach to system stakeholders to help with the adjustment.
