The Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) business lobby is forming a “Florida Workers’ Compensation Strategic Task Force” after a group of Florida Supreme Court decisions (Castellanos, Stahl, and Westphal) which could collectively cost businesses in the hundreds of millions.The task force evolved from a series of “Helping Florida Work” town halls in Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami this summer. AIF president and CEO Tom Feeney said in a statement that the task force will seek to restore balance in the system. The primary cost to businesses is a proposed nearly 20 percent rate hike from NCCI to take effect on October 1st; a hearing for that is set for August 16th at Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation.
