A jury has awarded $774,000 to a factory worker permanently injured on the job in early 2015. The verdict came despite an earlier ruling by the Supreme Court of Alabama that state workers’ compensation law provided immunity to two of the companies being sued, even though the plaintiff was employed through a third-party staffing company. The injury resulted from the man’s arm being pulled into a machine. The amount of $649,363.82 was compensatory damages and $125,000 was punitive damages.
