Texas Workers’ Compensation Commissioner Ryan Brannan has determined that the maintenance tax rate be lowered to 1.533 percent of gross premiums collected by workers’ compensation insurance carriers from January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2014. The maintenance tax supports the operations of the Division of Workers’ Compensation and the Office of Injured Employee Counsel. The tax rate has been lowered in four out of the last five years. Brannan cited Texas’ “robust” economy and “stable” comp system as reasons for the continued decreases.
