A Texas jury awarded a maintenance man $33.8 million after he fell through a skylight while working on a roof and suffered the loss of his leg. Steven Landers was working on the roof of a building in Fort Worth when he fell headfirst through an acrylic plastic skylight and landed 35 feet below on a concrete floor. His broken right leg was eventually amputated; his back, some ribs and his left arm were broken; and a lung was punctured. The initial lawsuit was against Wasco Products, which made the skylight. Landers also sued Anchor Roofing and Williamson-Dickie, the owner of the building. Anchor Roofing settled out of court and Landers was back at work with a prosthetic within a year and a half.
