Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation commissioner for policy and research, Amy Lee, said yesterday that the DWC will not be performing research on either the efficacy of compound medications or on the differences in fatality and injury rates between insured and non-subscribing Texas employers. Lee explained that though the division’s Research and Evaluation group has received many requests to study these issues, the quality of data currently available is so poor as to be useless. Lee also expressed personal frustration with the division’s inabilities saying, “As a researcher, I totally want to do that. The reality is, our data stinks.” The DWC has not precisely attributed the sub par data to anything, although Lee said that the restrictions of a federal grant were part of the difficulty.
