The Maine Workers’ Compensation Board is discussing the adoption of a formulary in a public meeting next week on Tuesday September 9th. The Board will hear from several regional experts in the course of their investigation, including: Kevin Flanigan, MD, Medical Director for Department of Health and Human Services, Gordon Smith, Executive Director of Maine Medical Association and Stephen Hull, MD of Mercy Hospital’s Pain Center. See the details on the meeting from WorkCompCentral here. This move in Maine comes as many states around the nation are considering formularies in an effort to control pharmacy costs within the workers’ comp system. Recall that Texas passed House Bill 7 in 2005 and adopted their closed formulary based on the Official Disability Guidelines in 2011. See details from the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation here.
